WEDDING

My memoir tutor, Mark, got married last week (Congratulations Mark!!).

Few month ago, he asked me if I would accept to be his wedding DJ.

I was thrilled, and then terrified, until he told me that I didn’t had to worry anymore because he finally had found a real one! Wahoo such a relief! For 2 days I had horrible nightmares about me ruining my favourite teacher’s wedding.

Because 1st: I’m not a DJ, and 2nd: everybody knows that a DJ has an important role in a party: a bad DJ can ruin a party and here, it’s not just a simple party it’s a wedding party!!

The tricky part in a wedding playlist is that 1st; you have to make a clever mix between oldies and trendy songs. The playlist has to represent all kind of generations - granny wants to dance too! And you also have to fit to the guests’ music taste.
2ndly, you have to be careful on the music you pick. Especially love songs. You have to avoid all songs talking about lost love, cheating couples, broken heart, etc… For example, “Bye Bye Love” from Ray Charles is not a good choice for a wedding playlist! But well, you can’t avoid all songs with explicit lyrics, just sad love songs!!

Anyway, as soon as he asked me if I would agree to be his wedding DJ, I started making a wedding playlist. So here is my wedding gift: I put here some of the tracks I selected for this occasion. I couldn’t put the whole wedding playlist, as I selected more than 200 tracks i.e. almost 14 hours of music.

MODESELEKTOR + APPARAT = MODERAT!

What’s MODERAT? Well it’s the new musical project from MDSLKTR & APPARAT, DJs signed on BPITCH CONTROL (Ellen Alien’s label).

For those who don’t know these DJs, well… MDSLKTR are one my favourite DJs, signed on BPITCH CONTROL. You have to go and see MDSLKTR on stage to understand how wicked they are! Their mixes go from nervous rhythm to slow pace melodies, swinging from one style to another. It’s just a thrill!

APPARAT is another talented DJ signed on BPITCH CONTROL, whose universe is more melancholic, with beautiful and dark melodies.

So the fusion between MDSLKTR and APPARAT is a mix between MDSLKTR’s low basses and deep rhythm, and APPARAT’s soft melodies and melancholic atmosphere.
Well, of course if you are a big fan of MODESELEKTOR you will find MODERAT quite… hmm… slow! But it’s not MODESELEKTOR it’s different!

IDLE WARSHIP

I’m not really into Hip Hop and Soul music. As you may have noticed I’m more into rock and electro rock but well, I like to think of myself as musically open-minded! (cf. The Perfect Drug)

So today I want to introduce you to one of my new musical crushes: IDLE WARSHIP, a musical Hip Hop Soul trio composed by Talib Kweli, Res and Graph Nobel.

I don’t know really much about these artists, I told you I’m more into rock and electro things, but apparently they are pretty popular and appreciated by professionals for their solo career. So I guess that when 3 talented artists decided to join together and create a band like IDLE WARSHIP, it can be amazing, only.

There’s not that much information on the band yet, but according to the band’s MySpace, IDLE WARSHIP is more about a state of mind, a way to be and live, and an artistic concept than just a random band.

Well, I won’t pretend that I have much to say about this band, because I don’t want to be a fake! Music talks for itself, so I hope you will love the two songs I have choose just for you, and appreciate the excellent vocal chemistry, notably on the stand out song “Steady”.

TAMBOURS DU BRONX

This morning it was pretty hard for me to get up! So I thought about an old song from a French band TAMBOURS DU BRONX.

The first sentence is « It’s 8 o’clock and you have to go to work! ».

So, while I was sipping my coffee I put this song to wake me up!

 

Tambours du Bronx is a French industrial percussion band, formed in 1987 and composed by more than 17 musicians.

From a simple happening, a joke between friends, the band became quickly famous and is now one of the major urban percussion’s international references. They performed around the world and supported famous band such as Korn or Led Zeppelin in 2006.

The band is well known for its rough energetic music with powerful rhythm, which brings you the energy you need when you have a hard time getting up like me!!




If this original band interests you, then go and see them at SKABAZAC (one of the most creative summer festival in France).
