My Band...
I'm really proud to present you the cover of the 1st EP from my band : THEORY OF DIFFRACTION!!

Well... In fact it's just a joke as I don't have a band at all! But I find the cover and the band's name quite cool indeed!
It's a funny game to do, the rules are simple:
1- Go on Wikipedia, and click on "random articles or follow this link : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wi
The 1st article you find is the name of your band.
2 -Then, you go on this website to find a quote, http://www.quotationspage.
3 - then follow this link to Flickr : http://www.flickr.com/expl
The 3rd picture, whatever the picture, is your EP's cover.
Have fun!

Shall we dance??
This week, I asked my memoir tutor, Fred, to have a look on my blog and tell me how to improve it.
He recommends me to put audio playlist… And he send me this video as a good example for my future playlists…
BOOMBOX from Ely Kim on Vimeo.
Thank you Fred for this very interesting advice! I will consider your proposition only if YOU dance on the video!! ^^
Anyway, I have to admit it’s an interesting way to present a playlist!!
Any volunteers??

Back To School
It happens generally once or twice/year: I am in a « Back to School » mood, and I restart listening to the old rock bands I used to love when I was a teenager.
The beginning of the 90s was characterized by the rise of grunge and alternative rock into the mainstream. The 90's was definitively a very rich and creative period
The Grunge was an incredible revolution for most of the teenagers, who discovered new kind of role models, more human, more desperate - really close to the teenage mood (you know the world is against you… By the world I mean the parents, the school…).

They showed the kids that there was a new way to express ourselves. After all, they were just like us and we felt we could relate to them. I remember how many of my friends were trying to create a band, playing in their garage. I tried to create one too (…well actually two: one was called Plump – grunge- and the other one Duckf****** - metal).
It was an amazing period for all the music teacher who saw their training courses full of desperate kids who needed to learn how to play guitar, drum, and bass to express themselves… and well to be cool, to get all the girls!

And later, Pop-Punk bands have replaced the grunge bands, and were followed by metal and nu-metal bands . That was a mental period.
Teachers and parents started to get really worried to see these angry and taciturn kids wearing baggy jeans, dog collars and chains, turning into pierced freaks, hanging around with other kids with long hair with a devil look in the eyes, listening to inaudible music consisting of loud guitars and generally a singer screaming like a mental case.

With grunge, kids were desperately screaming out “please help me I’m drowning down”.
With metal they were just saying “F*** You! We’re screwed!” We tried to find a way to survive and face our anger among hopeless and meaningless visions of the future with our pals, drinking beer and supporting the local bands that performed on crappy stages!

Me & my friends - Back from the Deftones concert
God! I miss this old time !! That was so great!! Lots of fun indeed!! ☺

THE PERFECT DRUG*
I have abused drugs, I have abused alcohol and many other things, but I have one true addiction, that has remained for years.
In fact, as far as I can remember, I have had this addiction since my childhood. And it’s growing inside of me and it’s incontrollable. And I don’t want it to be.
In fact, I let myself gladly sink in.
It’s my father who introduced me in the first place. In fact, it’s the first gift I received that I can actually remember. It was the most beautiful and powerful gift ever. And a part of who I am is forever bounded to this gift.
When he was 18, my father was a hippy, listening to the cool rock bands, smoking spliffs with his pals and taking many other things, hanging around at festivals, and so on…
From this amazing period between the 60’s/70’s, my father handed down to my brothers and me this incredible musical richness.
And that’s where my so very delightful addiction comes from.
The first gift I can ever remember was a vinyl of Joe Cocker in concert that my father gave to me. I was 5 or 6.
Then, music and I became strictly bound, and the relationship never went away.
Allan Bloom said: " Nothing is more singular about this generation than its addiction to music"
Indeed, music is to me the most vivid, thrilling, inspiring, exciting and stimulating addiction ever. It has taken control of my life, my moods, … all of myself and me!
One song can instantly change my mood, my way to perceive the outside and the others.
Once my brothers decided to divide up part of my father’s musical heritage: one took the 50’s – 60’s, the other one the 60’s-70’s, I absorbed all this to create a global knowledge in rock’n’roll and blues music, and to follow this thirst for music knowledge and improve it by discovering new bands and new style of music.

Actually, I am pretty proud of my musical knowledge, music library and influence.
From basic rock, I explored psychedelic, post-punk, British punk, US punk, metal, nu metal, metal hardcore, emocore, alternative rock, pop rock, indie rock, punk cabaret, trip hop, drum & bass, chillout… and many others kind of music.
There is not really any kind of music I’m not interested in listening to. I trust that I can find at least one good band in all types of music. Even if my roots belong to rock’n’roll, I don’t reject any form of music. And my thirst for more new music is never quenched.
Music is my addiction, my obsession.
I can’t spend a day without listening to music, my headphones and my Ipod are on as soon as I am out of my front door. Itunes is my best friend. In fact I can spend an entire night doing nothing, just browsing at my Itunes, as if I were hypnotized!
My devotion to music pushes me to go from Website to Website and to concerts, looking for new bands, all to find incredible original sounds. Hoping to discover unknown band that I would love impulsively, irrationally, immediately. The way I love music.

For most of my friends, I am a reference in music knowledge, always aware of artists long time before most people know who they are and before they are already the next big thing! And even if I try not being pretentious, I have to admit that I am pretty proud being approached by my friends for music recommendations.
As a 4th year communication student, I want to work in the music industry. Organising concerts, booking and promoting artists are my great plans for the future.
So, who I am now, and what I want to do with my professional life is definitively bound to this great gift I received from my father when I was a little girl. And for that, I thank him eternally and forever!
"My life is music. And in some vague, mysterious, and subconscious way, I have always been driven by a taut inner spring which has propelled me to almost compulsively reach for perfection in music, often--in fact, mostly--at the expense of everything else in my life."
Stan Getz

* The headline of the post is named after a song from Nine Inch Nails ;)
